Our 9 day program is specially designed for couples, families and groups of friends who want to experience the best of the Peruvian highlands in Cusco and the Amazon rainforest of Tambopata in Puerto Maldonado.

This is the perfect program to maximize your time between the Andes and the Amazon rainforest, as the distance between these two regions (Cusco and Puerto Maldonado) is only 200 miles and you can travel safely by bus (8 1/2 hours) or by plane (50 minutes).

Some of the highlights of this trip include Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley and Lake Humantay (or Colored Mountain) in Cusco, as well as the Tambopata National Reserve in Puerto Maldonado.

Our team will take care of everything you need to enjoy your trip with comfort, safety and tranquility: transfers between hotel and airport, tour transportation, professional guides, train and bus tickets, hotels (optional) and tickets to Machu Picchu.

Our itinerary can be changed according to your arrival and departure dates and times, as well as the tours that can be in small groups or private. Contact our specialists to receive more information and alternatives for your trip!

Day 1: LIMA – PUERTO MALDONADO – TAMBOPATA

Arrive into Puerto Maldonado Airport. Enjoy a 25-minute boat ride to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion lodge. Plunge into the depths of the rainforest with the Concepcion Trails jungle walk and take a Twilight River cruise as nocturnal creatures awake.

Day 2: TAMBOPATA

Hike through rainforest and glide across Lake Sandoval. Scale the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway for panoramic views and observe wildlife activity under darkness exploring the Rainforest by Night.

Day 3: TAMBOPATA

Discover many of the rainforest’s tropical plants up-close at our organic bio-orchard followed by a visit to Palmetum, where you will see a collection of Amazonian palms. Paddle on an ox-bow lake, and test your fishing skills on the lookout for piranhas. Visit to Inland Collpa.

Day 4: PUERTO MALDONADO – CUSCO

On this day we depart by boat from our lodge along the river and before leaving you at the airport for your departure flight from Puerto Maldonado to Cusco. We recommend a good rest and light diet for your body to better acclimate to the altitude of over 3400m (11100ft) above sea level.

Day 5: CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY – AGUAS CALIENTES

Enjoy a tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas visiting two of the most important historical and cultural centers in the Cusco region: Pisac and Ollantaytambo. In the late afternoon, board the train to Aguas Calientes where you will spend the night before your visit to Machu Picchu

Day 6: MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

On this day you will take the much dreamed-of guided tour of the magical lost city of Machu Picchu, lasting approximately 2 hours – more than enough time to learn the history of this sacred site and take the best photos. After the tour ends, we return to the small town of Aguas Calientes, from where the train leaves for the destination station, and finally our transportation from the station to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 7: HUMANTAY LAKE

On this day we will take a short hike to the Humantay Lake to get to know this paradise with turquoise waters, surrounded by imposing snowdrifts and breathtaking scenery at 4200 altitude, and which is part of the famous Salkantay Trail.

Day 8: RAINBOW MOUNTAIN

Get up close to the rare beauty of the Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca, the second most visited destination in the country and one that needs no introduction. It is a mandatory stop for everyone in Cusco on a tour where you can also enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the southern valley of Cusco and observe alpacas and llamas along the way.

If you prefer you can change this activity to the Humantay Lake experience on this day.

Accommodation, transfers, and flights are included?

The lodging and transfers in Tambopata are included as part of the tour and cannot be excluded. For the other days, you can choose if you want to hire only the tours or tours + lodging. Flights are not included but we will give you recommendations for airlines and schedules.

Very important: do not make any flight reservations without first contacting our team to make sure you will have enough time for this itinerary.

Why is the tourist ticket not included?

The Boleto Turístico (tourist ticket) is a personal ticket and is not sold in advance. It must be purchased in Cusco or at the entrance of the visited sites where this ticket is required.
Check our guide with all the information about the tourist ticket.

What to do with my luggage during the trip to Machu Picchu?

The maximum volume allowed on the trains is 5 kg per person, so you should travel with as little as possible, as all the rest of your luggage should stay at your hotel in Cusco during the two day trip. If you check out when you travel to Machu Picchu, you can leave your luggage in the hotel’s storage room.

What time will I enter Machu Picchu?

The entrance times for this tour is from 7am on, but it may vary according to ticket availability at the time of booking. Remember: the earlier you make your reservation, the more likely you are to get the best times.

Do I need a yellow fever vaccine to visit the Peruvian Amazon?

The yellow fever vaccine is not required for your entry into Peru but may be required upon your return to your country. For more information, please contact the health authorities in your home country.
